MISSION STATEMENT
Cordao de Ouro Birmingham is an arts company that delivers
workshops and performances of Capoeira for young people and adults
from all sectors of the community.
We are a cultural organistation dedicated to the promotion and distribution of our art form and are passionate about its study and practise.
Capoeira can be means for great personal transformation and progression, our passion for this holistic art form we aim to enrich students lives through the study and practise of:
martial art, dance, music, community /individual development.
Our goal is to create awareness of Capoeira,
a rich hybrid fight-like dance, dance-like fight, ritual, and way of life.
To achieve our mission we teach Capoeira among other related traditional art forms; and host social, and cultural events that aim to strengthen our community;
C.D.O.B welcomes similar organizations and individuals to participate in an ongoing dialogue of ideas and to develop collaborative projects
Our values include:
C - Community: interaction between individuals from all backgrounds and heritages. We give most importance to continually developing and maintaining our arts community. Our group is all inclusive an celebrates individual expression and social cohesion in a multicultural ever globalised world.
D - Development: we are a centre for intensive training and development in our mixed art-form. We are dedicated to the progression of our members in all areas of their practise. From the physical elements of dance, gymnastics and fitness to the musical percussion, song and rhythm. We have a holistic approach to the arts with practical applications in theatre, dance, music and performing arts. Finally we also give emphasis to the mental and social development of our members through study of language, history, sociology and philosophy.
O - Ownership: in an increasingly secure society the feeling of ownership and contribution to our communities is decreasing. We encourage a group sense of responsibility for one another and our local and broader communities. The sense of social inclusion and psychological security of group acceptance is an important one to us. We try to maintain a equal balance between individual attainment and group solidarity, allowing each of our members to work together to achieve their goals and overcome there struggles.
B - Belief: confidence and self-belief are ultimately the eventual aim for all our members. Confidence to interact and socialise with a wide community of differing individuals with various personalities. The confidence to perform and train in differing settings and environments. The confidents to travel to, interact with, and educate about other cultures. Our goal that our members discover a new self-belief and a belief in others that allows them to feel empowered and confident in society and interact amongst others.
